Raila Makes Surprise Visit to Kisumu Ahead of His Planned Swearing In

Why Raila has visited Kisumu ahead of his planned swearing in on 12 December.

This is the first time that he is visiting the region where he enjoys massive support after the October 26 repeat polls which NASA boycotted.

Odinga landed at the Kisumu International Airport at 6:30 PM and was received by a host of leaders led by Kisumu governor Peter Anyang Nyongo.

As news of his presence in the Lakeside City spread, crowds of excited supporters gathered, chanting party slogans and declaring their support for the opposition chief.

Amidst tight security, the opposition boss retreated to his Opoda home where it is believed he will be for the rest of the weekend.

Sources privy to the details revealed that Mr. Odinga was in the region to relax with his family and plan his next move.

Details of his program remained scanty with one of the members of the NASA presidential campaign team, Bob Madanje disclosing that the NASA leader would spend Saturday at home with no possibility of attending any political rally.

On 28 November, Odinga promised his supporters that he would be sworn in on 12 December 2017.

His supporters are anxiously waiting to see how this will happen as President Uhuru Kenyatta has already taken the oath of office and is in the process of constituting the cabinet.

The opposition, led by Mr. Odinga has maintained that they do not recognize the legitimacy Kenyatta whose win was upheld by the Supreme Court following the October 26 repeat polls.
