From Babu Owino to Betty Kyallo, find out which teams prominent Kenyans support in the World Cup

Kenyans of diverse social status, political inclinations, tribes and ranks have all been brought together by this tournament that has the whole world glued to their screens.

Prominent Kenyans including Opposition chief Raila Odinga have also jumped on this trendy topic and announced the teams they will be supporting in the games being played in Russia.

Pulselive.co.ke has compiled a list of what some big shots are supporting:

1. Raila

The former Prime Minister has been supporting Germany since time immemorial.

Knowing his inclination, a section of Germany fans in Kenya through Nation Media Group CEO Stephen Gitagama presented the Opposition leader with the official Jersey of the team.

2. Miguna Miguna

Self-proclaimed National Resistance Movement (NRM) General Miguna Miguna supports Mexico.

The political activist announced his support for Mexico, citing the country’s role in supporting the Cuban revolution.

Miguna, who often cites Che Guevara and Fidel Castro as his mentors, stated his support was a tribute to Mexico for hosting the Cuban revolutionaries when it was not fashionable to do.

Fidel and his brother Raul fled to Mexico where they met Che Guevara and laid the framework for the celebrated Cuban Revolution of 1958.

3 Murkomen and co.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale are rooting for Brazil.

4. Jeff Koinange and Betty Kyallo

Media personalities including renowned journalist Jeff Koinange have also made public the teams they are supporting.

Mr Koinange is placing his bet on the Samba boys while KTN news anchor Betty Kyallo wants the German machine to take the cup home.

5. Jakoyo Midiwo

Former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo today appeared on the AM Live show donned in a Nigeria jersey just to show his support for the team.

The Super Eagles will be playing against Argentina tonight, a match that will determine whether they will progress with the tournament or not.

Like many Africans who seems to have an African team as their first choice then another international one as their second choice, Midiwo is rooting for Brazil as his second favourite.

Countries playing in the 2018 Fifa World Cup are now fighting for a place in the last 16.

By the time of going to press, only four countries- Spain, Russia, Uruguay and Portugal had booked a space in this round that will usher to the quarterfinals.
