Notice of massive demolition issued in this area, Nairobi

Beware of the demolitions.

The notice, dated July 3 is set to displace hundreds, even as residents reel from the recent demolition which left many homeless when Kenya Railways Authority embarked on a mission to remove illegal structures along its line.

“The construction of Ngong Road-Kibera-Kiungu Karumba-Langata Link Road is at advanced stage. However, there are illegal structures which are on the said road reserve that hindered construction works at Kibera,” reads part of the stament.

It adds: “This is therefore to give Public Notice that these structures must be removed before 16th July, 2018.”

Last month, over 400 families were left homeless after their houses were demolished in Kibera, Nairobi, on Thursday.

One of the affected residents, Akinyi Onyango, said teargas was lobbed into their houses early in the morning.

"Police officers were here as early as before 6am. They started by lobbying teargas and before we could salvage our items the bulldozers were already demolishing our houses," said Ms Onyango.
