KCSE candidate becomes blind on morning of starting exam

A KCSE candidate from Marungu Secondary School in Taita Taveta was unable to start her exams after she mysteriously became blind on the morning she was to sit for her first paper.

Confirming the incident, County Director of Education Philip Wambua said that the student did not sit for her first paper on Monday as her eyesight failed completely.

Wambua said they had taken the student for medical tests at a nearby medical facility.

“We assessed her but she cannot sit her papers. Her eyesight has failed and she has to see an eye specialist,” the official said.

At the hospital, doctors were unable to detect or solve the problem in time for her to sit the critical examination.

The incident is one of the many unfortunate cases where students have been unable to sit for the final national examinations for various reasons.

In Wajir, a student was raped by her principal on the eve of the night she was to start her examinations.

In other instances, students have passed on before completing their papers, while many others have sat for exams from the maternity after giving birth during the KCPE/KCSE.
