Evans Kidero Foundation The controversial life of Kidero’s son ‘Ron' who was arrested last night

The tribulations facing former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero’s family on Wednesday night escalated after his son, Ronald ‘Ron’ Odhiambo Kidero was arrested by detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Ron’s arrest came just a day after his father was arrested by EACC detectives and charged with corruption-related charges.

He was held at Central police station before being taken to Gigiri police station where he spent the night.

However, Ron’s arrest was not in relation to corruption, but with claims that he was selling adulterated fuel at a petrol station he owns in Ridgeways.

Kideo’s son, however, is no stranger to controversy.

Ron attended the prestigious Babson College in the US, where he studied Business Administration (Finance option).

He went on to work for reputed audit firm Deloitte, before moving to East Africa Capital Partners where he worked as a senior financial analyst.

The younger Kidero also serves as the treasurer of the controversial Evans Kidero Foundation.

Part of the challenges facing his father, started with Ron’s failure to file financial returns for the family foundation for three consecutive years while holding Sh2.7 billion in its bank accounts.

The matter attracted the attention of the EACC, which began pursuing the former Nairobi Governor for various matters before finally getting the approval to charge him in the current case where he is accused of conspiring to defraud the Nairobi County Government.

In 2015, Ronald courted controversy after he criticised ODM leader Raila Odinga for arriving late at a national function held at Uhuru Park.

The President didn’t mince words today. Those in power must be respected. Arriving late showed utter lack of respect and decorum. And for those hecklers, the President answered you: “Leo hii Gavana wa Nairobi ni Kidero. Doesn’t get any clearer than that,” he posted on his Facebook page.

He later pulled down the controversial post after complains by Odinga’s supporters.
