A family's celebration to welcome a new member was cut short just ten hours after birth. According to nurses at St Paul's Dispensary, Kakamega County, the baby girl born on September 23rd did not survive the tragic deformity that saw her brain grow outside her skull.
The doctors are yet to discover the cause of the deformity. The nurses confirm that the mother, Valarie Ochiri, had been attending ante-natal clinic sessions, however, no scans were performed to establish the conditon of the baby in the womb.
After her birth, the nurses who noticed the condition of the child advised that the mother and baby be transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret for better treatment.
The child's skull was not well developed causing the child's brains to spill outside the skull matter.
Unfortunately, Valarie's husband who is a taxi driver was not able to raise the needed amount of money to transport the baby even after the price being reduced in half from Sh9,000 to sh4,500.
The couple buried their baby at their rural home in Kanyabala, Homa Bay county.
