Why Dubai police team is looking for Miguna hours after leaving for Canada

The investigation comes barely a day after he left Dubai for Canada.

The Nation on Monday quipped that the Dubai authorities have started to investigate how Dr Miguna acquired his Canadian passport, which he previously failed to produce both in Kenya and when he landed at Dubai International Airport on Thursday.

"UAE authorities have started investigations on how he got his Canadian passport back after failing to produce it to the authorities on departure from Kenya and arrival in Dubai," the local daily reported of  the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity as he is “not authorised to give media reports on the matter.”

On Monday morning, the self-declared general of the National Resistance Movement left Dubai International Airport aboard flight Air Canada 57 (ACA57), upon producing his Canadian passport, which he alleged that had been seized by the Kenyan authorities.

The fact that Dr Miguna has his Canadian passport puts his lawyer Nelson Havi in perjury, after he swore an affidavit to the High court claiming that Kenyan government officials had taken the passport.

“The Respondents have unlawfully seized the Petitioner's Canadian Passport in a clear attempt to have him declared stateless and continue to violate his fundamental rights and freedoms,” Mr Havi swore in an affidavit.

The UAE has also urged the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport back in Nairobi to commence investigations into how the airline dropped off Miguna “without his Canadian passport.”

"Kenya may also wish to investigate how that passport got back to him after he accused Kenyan authorities of having stolen it from him during a scuffle at JKIA."

The plane which Miguna used touched down at Toronto Pearson International Airport at 05.14am, Canadian time (12.15pm Kenyan time) on Monday after a 13-hour-and-25-minute flight.

Dr Miguna, who landed in Dubai on Thursday morning, spent four days in the Arab Emirates, mostly receiving treatment.

He had complained of ill health after accusing Kenyan police of injecting him with “unknown poisonous chemicals” as they deported him.

He claimed his body, especially his ribs, were hurting after being drugged, assaulted and dragged to the flight during his deportation.

He was treated and discharged from the Sheikh Rashid Hospital in Dubai.
