2017 was a year full of mixed blessings for President Uhuru Kenyatta.
As he completed his first term and retreated to the electorate seeking a fresh mandate, it was a year full of eventful moments.
Here is a recap of President Kenyatta’s year that saw him celebrate his 56 birthday:
1. Address to the G7
The Kenyan head of state got a historic chance after he was invited to address the G7 summit which was graced by the most powerful leaders in the world.
Kenyatta became the first African leader to address the G7 and also offered him a platform to meet newly elected US President Donald Trump.
2. Turning 56
The October 26 election was historic in the sense that one of the candidates was turning 56 on the same day.
As he celebrated his birthday, his supporters treated with a rare gift of electing him with a whopping 98 percent.
3. Winning a second term
2017 was also the year when Kenyatta won his second and final term.
A loss in the historic election would have earned him the dubious record of being the first President to go for a single term.
4. Becoming a grandfather
The First Family welcomed their first grandson after Uhuru’s son, Jomo and his wife Fiona Achola, were blessed with their first born – Baby Wanjiru.
Despite the many blessings, the Kenyan president had his fair share of low moments. It was in 2017 that his sister, Margaret passed on.
He also became the first African President to lose an election through a court nullification.
