President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated for top continental leadership award

Uhuru among Africa's best leaders of 2017

The president made it in a competitive pool of more than 250 high achievers from across the continent who were vetted by a selection committee.

This year, the award focused on high-achieving Africans whose “policies and actions have contributed to creating jobs and spreading the wealth; promoting democratic values; and/or promoting Africa’s image abroad.”

Kenyatta will face it out with presidents Paul Kagame (Rwanda) Mohammadu Buhari (Nigeria) Ellen Johnson Sirleaf(Liberia) who have also been short listed in the Political Leadership Category.

Others in the race include Julius Malema (South Africa) and Mark Ravalomanana(Madagascar).

The winner of the award will be announced on 5 January 2018 and would be formally decorated at a gala in Johannesburg, South Africa on 24 February 2018.

Past recipients of the award include former heads of State Jakaya Kikwete (Tanzania) Goodluck Jonathan (Nigeria) and former Vice President of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar.

The annual continental award is an initiative of African Leadership Magazine based in the United Kingdom.

Other prominent Kenyans nominated for the award in various categories include businessman Manu Chandaria and Joel Macharia.
