10 students taken to hospital, several injured after villagers thwart their attempts to burn school

Villagers and police storm school and confront rioting students

Villagers responded to distress calls by school staff after the students went on rampage at around 9PM on Friday night, pelting stones and breaking window panes.

In the ensuing confrontation, the students were overwhelmed by the police and villagers who arrived promptly, descending on the unruly students in a bid to prevent any further destruction of property.

Atleast 10 students were taken to Karatina level 4 hospital with many others fleeing the school.

Area chief William Kihu confirmed that villagers and well-wishers stormed the school in response to distress calls after students went on the rampage before they could cause further damage.

This comes in the wake of several cases of unrests in schools with more than 10 schools counting losses after students destroyed property and set buildings ablaze.

The event happened on the same day that 3 students from the same school were arraigned in a Nyeri court and charged with being found in possession of dangerous weapons with intention of committing a felony i.e to destroy property.
