Drama at IEBC as resigned Commissioners try to meet Chebukati

IEBC drama continues...

Mr Chebukati turned down the meeting by the commissioners noting that there were other ongoing meetings at the IEBC.

"I asked them to put in writing what they wanted to discuss with me," Chebukati told journalists.

He went on to describe the resigned officials as strangers stating the electoral body does not recognize them as commissioners.

"There is no place for former commissioners in the IEBC. They came in on Friday & we were surprised they retained some keys. As far as the commission is concerned, they are no longer IEBC Commissioners," he said.

Mr Chebukati has maintained that the commissioners are not part of the electoral body following their dramatic resignation which they announced during a press conference in April.

The IEBC boss further divulged that the commissioners had returned assets belonging to the Commission and handed a resignation letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, this contradicts his previous remarks where he condemned the resignation noting that they were still enjoying IEBC assets and had not followed the proper procedure.

At the same time, Chebukati mentioned that he was unsure whether the IEBC officials were still receiving salaries 5 months after they resigned.

"Immediately they resigned I wrote to the Treasury to the PS to stop their salaries. I am not sure whether that was done. I have not got feedback up to now," he said.
