The Nation carried a story of Wambu Muturi, who was last week gunned down by police during an operation to rescue a kidnapped woman.
The elderly woman had worked with accomplices including John Mwangi and Samuel Kang’ethe (her nephew), who were also killed during the operation in Gatundu village, Murang’a.
They had been demanding Sh5 million ransom from Margaret Waithera who was kept hostage for six days.
“The cucu (grandmother) was the one looking after me. She also threatened to have me circumcised...She would also threatened to cut my hands if I did not cooperate,” the victim recalled in an interview with the Nation.
Despite her criminal ways, Wambui is said to have been a devout catholic and although neighbours found her secretive, they were rather shocked on discovering she was a dangerous criminal.
The granny’s story has been widely shared on social media platforms, even grabbing the attention of popular radio show hosts Maina and King’ang’i.
