Women who entertained Uhuru forced to sleep at stadium

The women had been practicing for six days to entertain the president.

Nyeri residents at the Kabiru-ini grounds in Nyeri County before the Madaraka Day celebrations.

The women who are mostly elderly remained at the venue, Kabiruini Stadium on Thursday long after Kenyatta and all those in attendance left as they waited for the money they had been promised after entertaining the president.

According to them, they had each been promised Sh6000 as compensation which they were supposed to be paid shortly after the celebrations.

According to Citizen Digital, the women had been practicing for six days running and remained at the stadium to await payment from the organisers of the function.

The women accused the county government headed by Samuel Wamathai for failing to honour the agreement.

The women claimed, Wamathai only offered them Sh500 and promised to give them the rest later.

However this did not go down well with the women who rejected the Sh500.

According to the women, one of them collapsed as a result of hunger since they had not eaten since 5am.

They have now threatened to disrupt Governor Wamathai’s submission of nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) until their dues are paid in full.

Citizen Digital further reported that the amount will attract an interest of Sh1,000 per day saying that they abandoned their duties only to be ignored and avoided by the organisers.

They further warned other women to be cautious when offering entertainment in government functions to avoid the same predicament.
