Jubilee strongholds maintain lead over NASA with only 1 week left

According to the latest data released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Ruto's home turf of Rift Valley is leading after registering 497,313 new voters against a total target of 1,208,932 after the third week of the MVR exercise.

Eastern region which has a mixture of both NASA and Jubilee voters is second with 348,977 new voters in the register against a total of 955,725.

Uhuru’s Central region is third after listing 318,457 out of a target 686,947 while Raila Odinga's perceived strongholds of Nyanza and Coast have recorded 248,390 and 238,499 new voters against a combined target of 1,556,226.

Nairobi County stands at sixth after listing 251,054 voters against its target of 855,531 voters.

Western region which has so far performed dismally in the exercise maintained its trend registering only 185,683 new voters against a total target of 742,041.

After three weeks, North Eastern has listed 63,100 new voters out of the 111,878 targeted.

NASA headache

The latest tally will prove a headache for the newly formed NASA coalition despite all its top leaders vigorously crisscrossing the country urging their supporters to turn up in large numbers to register while maintaining that was the only way of ejecting the Jubilee administration from power.

The tribal factor and ethnic superiority numbers in various strongholds of these leaders will once again play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the elections.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has maintained that these elections will be won during the voter registration exercise which ends on February 14.

“The coming elections will be won in the next 30 days. No sleeping, no taking alcohol until we have all the numbers. It will be a do-or-die for us,” said Raila, who will be taking a fourth stab at the presidency in August.

Among the leading counties that have registered the highest amount of registered voters include Kiambu (138,716), Nakuru (107,551), Meru (98,850), Mombasa (78,684) and Machakos (65236).
