Jubilee Senator's mother dies

Jubilee Senator Irungu Kang'ata is mourning the death of his mother Margaret Wangechi Irungu.

The Senator of Murang’a County who is also the Majority Chief Whip in the Senate’s mother died on Saturday morning while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital.

Confirming the reports, Senator Kanga’ta who spoke to Nation said his mother was admitted at the Coptic Hospital in Nairobi where she has been receiving treatment.

The senator said his mother was suffering from diabetes and hypertension.

Several leaders have sent messages of condolence to the senator’s family during this hard time. Murang’a leaders including Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and nominated MP Maina Kamanda sent condolence messages to Senator Kang'ata’s family.

We have lost an exemplary mother who was selfless. Her humility was exhibited by the way she lived. Kiharu is mourning,” said MP Nyoro said.

I was with the senator on Friday when I wished his mother quick recovery, not knowing she would leave us today. I [went] through the same journey last year. The senator’s case is extreme because both his parents were at the hospital. May she rest in eternal peace," said Kigumo MP Ruth Mwaniki.

Kang’ata wedding

His mother’s death comes barely seven months after he walked down the aisle his wife and mother of his children Mary Wambui in a colorful wedding that was attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
