Naftali Kinuthia sent to jail for 1 month
Prime suspect in the murder of Moi University student Ivy Wangeci
Eldoret High Court judge Stephen Githinji ordered the suspect to be remanded for one more month as the court awaits the probation officer's report.
Kinuthia's lawyer Mbiu Kamau's had argued that the suspect would neither interfere with the case nor fail to appear in court if granted bail.
Statement from lawyer representing Ivy's family
A statement by the lawyer representing Ivy Wangeci's family indicated that the judge also sent the suspect back to remand after new documents were presented before the court.
"We have also put in two more responses from Ivy's mother and from the investigating officer that the defense also needs to peruse and respond to so we will be back for a hearing of the bail application on May 27," the lawyer explained.
He added that they were still opposed to Kinuthia being granted bail stating that it would be in the best interest of justice to try the suspect while he is in custody.
Kinuthia earlier denied the murder charge brought against him, which attracts a death sentence if found guilty.
He may opt for the man slaughter charge which bears a more lenient sentence if found guilty.
