Nairobians hold Monday morning protests

Residents in Embakasi East held demonstrations on Monday morning protesting the poor state of roads. learnt that the residents were angered by what they termed as neglect of the roads from the Nairobi leadership.

Governor Mike Sonko’s administration was put on the spot over the bad roads.

Most roads were filled with potholes and flooded when it rained because drainage was blocked.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino told that the roads would be repaired soon since the rains had interfered with schedule.

"We will be working on the repair of the roads in the coming days as we have done with numerous others in Embakasi East," the MP stated.

Slow repairs

Those protesting called out Governor Mike Sonko's administration for not listening to their complaints.

Eastlands residents have been asking the Nairobi County to hasten the process of repairing roads around the capital.

The beginning of this year, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority said that they had planned for the repair of 38 roads in the Eastlands.

Nairobi county government had stated that the Rehabilitation of Eastlands Roads Project Progress Reports’ project would cover 79.4 kilometres.

Roads under repair

Contractors had begun working on Ambira & Sakwa, Manyanja, Kayole Spine, Maasai and Airport North roads.

Other roads included Utawala, Hamza, Rabai, Nile, Bumbani, Heshima, Utawala, Buruburu Farmers, Lunga Lunga, Juja and Kampala roads.

Three Chinese companies were awarded the tender with work on the roads expected to be completed this year.
