Sonko we are giving you one more chance or this will happen- Sakaja

Sonko in trouble

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, who is the chair of the Devolution Committee, on Wednesday stated that Sonko failed to show up to a meeting with the group after snubbing an invite sent to him.

Sakaja remarked that a second invite would be sent to Governor Sonko, failure to which they would take action against him.

“We are going to send another invite to the Governor to appear before the committee. If he fails to honour the invite, we will summon him,” noted the Nairobi Senator.

Members of the committee were irked when they waited for more than half an hour for the county boss to show up before cancelling the meeting and did not receive any word from Sonko.

The tough talking Sakaja pointed out that the behavior by the controversial Sonko sets a very bad example that has affected devolution.

The agenda of the planned meeting was for the governor to explain the reason why he still had not appointed a deputy governor.

“It means a Governor can decide to frustrate the deputy to resign or reach a deal to vacate office and operate without one. At the same time, without a substantive Speaker, he/she cannot be impeached by the Members of the County Assembly,” pointed out Sakaja.

In January, Sonko highlighted that a letter from the National Super Alliance (NASA), had made him not to name a new deputy governor.

He disclosed that the document named a new nominee that the governor was asked to consider for the position.

The nominee suggested was  Rahab Wangui, a member of the Wiper party who lost the Nairobi Woman Representative seat to Esther Passaris.
