Shocking details emerge of hospital where Martha Karua's niece died

All is not well at Nairobi West Hospital...

That is according to a Facebook user who took to the site to lament about the institution's awful working conditions.

The hospital, where Martha Karua’s niece passed on recently, has been bashed by the public for being run under deplorable conditions and not offering patients a 'conducive healing environment.’

A post shared on a Facebook group dubbed Buyer Beware-Kenya (Original) by Mildred Atty Owiso read:

She then shared pictures of the poor state of the hospital with a possible disaster in waiting at the expense of the ongoing mass excavation works just next to the hospital.

Irate members of the public joined in the debate and shared similar sentiments:

Linet Kimuhu: “And the way they ask for money n woe unto u if u don’t have they will be rude n arrogant.”

Precious Nenno Maina: “every time I am there I make a formal complaint on the same. Toilets…ICU you wear their shoes aki they stink..”

Nanu Kubai: “During the doctors strike, doctors practically begged the public to join them to petition the govt to improve public healthcare. But we couldn’t care less. Until the rot in public healthcare is cleaned up, we will have such scenarios or worse in private hospitals.”

The hospital's management said that they were aware of the post and admitted facing a number of challenges.

A statement sent to P Live through their PR Communications Officer,Sharon Mucheke read in part:

"We are fully aware of the post on Buyer Beware regarding the hospital. As well as offer our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused to the patient and the husband, as well as others who may be affected.

She added that some of the renovations being undertaken in the hospital might be an inconvenience but are geared towards improving the patients welfare.

"Our goal is to provide the best medical care accessible to Kenyans, hence the continued improvements and building being carried out.....we understand that this may cause an inconvenience to some, but for progress to happen continuous change and improvements have to be undertaken, and such are undertaken in the safest of standards in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of experts to ensure compliance."

Efforts to have the hospital contact the husband as well as the Admin of Buyer Beware were fruitless.
