KENHA has announced the closure of the busy Naivasha-Maai Mahiu highway at Fai Amario area after damage blamed on vandals.

Motorists have been advised to use alternative roads as KENHA repairs the bridge which was vandalized.

On Sunday motorists had been cautioned to avoid the road after the light 4.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Kenya.

Alternative roads

It is not clear when the cracks appeared at the section near the bridge, which is about 8km from Naivasha town.

Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara who visited the area on Monday called for quick action citing the importance of the busy road to the economy.

"We are yet to ascertain the cause of the damage but from a layman's perspective we can detect poor workmanship," said Ms Kihara.

Vehicles were diverted to a dirt road, raising complaints from locals that the heavy traffic has led to a storm of dust.
