Stage set for Isaac Rutto to formally join opposition alliance during Bomet rally

Raila announced that Governor Isaac Rutto will host them at Bomet Town.

Raila Odinga (left) this week announced that Governor Isaac Rutto will host them at Bomet Town on February 4, 2017.

The announcement was symbolic in nature given that Rutto has been a vocal critic of the Jubilee administration and in particular his former close friend now turned foe Deputy President William Ruto.

Governor Rutto and Kanu Chairman Gideon Moi are seen as the missing link in the opposition’s grand masterplan which they hope will oust the Jubilee administration from power in the August elections.

Though Moi has maintained a lukewarm wait-and-see approach towards NASA, Rutto has been more accommodating.

Key ally

Rutto is seen by the opposition as a key ally and an entry point into the populous and vote-rich basket of Rift Valley as they strategically position themselves to eat away some of the Deputy President’s strong influence and support in the area.

Rutto has already welcomed NASA to his Bomet County and said everyone who wants to come and ask for votes is free to visit the area.

“Those who are sending brokers to come and insult us in our area will cry on polling day,” Rutto said on Tuesday in an apparent swipe at the Jubilee top leadership.

During a homecoming rally for Rutto upon his return from South Africa in November last year, the governor was accompanied by other opposition leaders including Musalia Mudavadi, Gideon Moi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Governors Jack Ranguma and Wycliffe Oparanya.

The leaders praised Ruto for his stance at devolution urging Bomet residents to re-elect him come 2017 so as he should continue reigniting the region.

Musalia Mudavadi stressed on the launch of the National Alliance Party that will send the Jubilee administration home in the 2017 elections.

"We want to form an Alliance that will include all opposition parties," declared Mudavadi.
