The board froze the bank accounts belonging to the Foundation highlighting that it was involved in money laundering and operating illegal accounts.

In the Foundation, Kalonzo is the trustee and patron, his wife is the trustee and chairperson, his son is the secretary while a fourth person identified as Martha Mulwa is the treasurer.

In a letter NGO Board’s CEO Fazul Mahamed stated that the Foundation could not account for Sh196 million, including Sh50 million from Chinese donors.

Mr. Mahamed indicated that the huge amounts of money were donated to improve the livelihoods of marginalised communities as well as provide healthcare and quality education, among other poverty alleviation interventions, in the neighbouring counties of Machakos, Kitui and Makueni, but the Foundation could not account for it.

“The NGO cannot account for Sh50 million from China Youth Development Foundation for the construction of classrooms in the area.

“The funds are not traceable in the foundation’s bank accounts, annual returns, audited accounts or the foundation’s bank statements given to the board for review,” Mahamed said in the letter.

The Board’s CEO mentioned that the Musyoka’s organization was also operating secret and illegal bank accounts both locally and internationally.

Mahamed noted that the Board had substantial evidence to open an investigation into the matter.

“Subsequently, the Board has already initiated a legal process of ascertaining the level of criminal culpability of the directors of the foundation with respect to their fiduciary responsibility to the laws of Kenya, the intended beneficiaries and the people of Kenya," Mahamed stated.

However, Kalonzo has since dismissed the claims highlighting that it was politically instigated.

The former Vice President divulged that he will be holding a press conference on Wednesday to address the issue.

“I will respond to all issues raised tomorrow (Wednesday) and Kenyans will be very shocked with what I will reveal. You should also look at the timing of the action of the board,” the NASA co-principal mentioned.
