This is the second time the council of elders have placed a curse on the CS.

Meru's Njuri Ncheke council of elders during a meeting at Chuka University on February 27, 2016.

The powerful Ameru council of elders the Njuri Ncheke have placed a curse on Lands Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi.

The elders said that Kaimenyi had fuelled division among them hence the curse.

This is the second time that the elders have cursed Kaimenyi.

A group of elders over the weekend performed the traditional rituals at the revered Nchiru shrine in Tigania West.

The Njuri Ncheke argued have also called for President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack Kaimenyi and replace him with someone else from the community.

"We are the ones who lobbied for Kaimenyi to be appointed Cabinet Secretary. We will march to State House should Uhuru not him by mid of next month," they vowed.

Wrong curse

However according to The Star, the CS said that it was wrong for the elders to curse him and demand that the President fire him.

"They are not the ones who appointed me. The President did...if he finds me unfit he can sack...they cannot tell him what to do," he said.

Earlier this month, the council of elders held a meeting at the Nchiru shrine to place a curse on Kaimenyi.

The secretary general Josephat Murangiri said the elders condemned the CS for declining to honour summons to appear before them.

They said the CS defied protocol by ignoring them and instead recognising former Njuri Ncheke leaders at a rally in Meru attended by Deputy President William Ruto last month.

The elders also imposed a fine known as “mirongo ithatu” on the CS.

They said if he fails to pay the cleansing fine, he remains “Ncheege” (porcupine).
