MCA suspended over laying on the floor of the Assembly

Dramatic behavior punished

Nairobi County Assembly during a past session

Nominated MCA Mary Arivisa was on Wednesday suspended for disruption and lying on the floor of the Nairobi County Assembly during the call for the impeachment of Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi.

The nominated MCA together with Mary Njambi, Laura Mwende and Nancy Muthami, have been reported to be suspended for ten working days over disorderly conduct by the Nairobi County Assembly Powers and Privileges Committee.

The committee in addition, suspended Arivisa for an extra 21 days for her dramatic behavior.

The lawmaker had caused a scene during an assembly session in September 2018, when she found out that she had been proposed for the acting speaker position in absentia.

Arivisa, who had been nominated for the position alongside Ngara MCA Chege Mwaura and another Nominated MCA Mary Njambi, had stated that the dramatic outburst was her way of showing support to Elachi.

The Assembly clerks had found it hard to calm her down after she had begun shouting.

Elachi impeached

Njambi had opted to drop out of the nomination in support of Mwaura, who was also the Majority Whip.

Elachi was impeached after 103 members voted in favor while 2 voted against and 2 abstained.

A section of the ward representatives had noted that the internal conflict had undermined service delivery to residents of Nairobi County.
