National Transport and Authority (NTSA) body on Monday revoked night travel licences for five saccos.

NTSA Director General Francis Meja stated that night travel contributed highly to the accidents witnessed on the road.

Several operators have been found to be in violation of provisions of section 7(c) and 11 (1) of the NTSA regulations 2014 despite an earlier warning against contravening conditions of their licences.

“Statistics indicate that that night travel poses a high risk and majority of the accidents occur during this period,” remarked Meja.

The NTSA boss further pointed out that only those who had met the requirements will be allowed to operate.

Similar saccos to have faced such an action before were Prestige, Nawasuko, Latema, Kibea Bureti, Lucky Baba Dogo and Marimba sacco.

Tsavo horrific crash

This ban comes after a Sunday morning accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway that left 8 people dead and several injured.

The accident that occurred at Kanga area, Tsavo was a result of a head on collision of two vehicles.

Makueni county commissioner Maalim Mohammed called for caution by motorists and observation of traffic rules during the festive period.
