Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's elder brother Oburu Odinga on Friday lost claim to a prime plot of land in Kisumu Central Business District.

Dr Oburu has been in court since 2017 seeking to have the High Court throw out a suit by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) which claimed that he had been allocated the land fraudulently.

Justice Stephen Kibunja, however, ruled that the 0.14 hectares valued at Sh35 million which includes the Kisumu Municipality block 7/509 was indeed irregularly allocated and ordered that it be reclaimed by the EACC.

The court further barred the MP and any of his agents from carrying out any form of transaction with the land and also from claiming possession of it.

Dr Oburu is one of Kenya's representative at the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA).

EACC Wester region head George Oira, while speaking to reporters after the ruling added that other tracts of public land that had been grabbed by individuals had also been recovered.

Among them some parcels of land belonging to Kisumu Judiciary valued at Sh830 million.
