Oscar Sudi breaks tension with this speech that left Uhuru in laughter

Sudi was not expected to speak

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi on Friday afternoon eased the tension that had built up in anticipation of President Uhuru Kenyatta's visit to his constituency.

Sudi's name had been left out of the State House programme, allegedly for fear he would use the occasion to launch a political attack on the head of state.

However, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago allowed Sudi and area Senator Margaret Kamar to make a few remarks as he welcomed guests to the event.

In his speech, Sudi welcomed the President to Eldoret and invited him to visit more often - to escape from the pressures of Nairobi.

Kenyatta-Ruto unity

"Your Excellency, this is your sitting room. You should visit here to launch more development projects. We know that some of your people in Nairobi give you pressure but we want you to visit more often and breath this fresh air," Sudi said as Kenyatta broke out in laughter.

Sudi, however, pleaded with Kenyatta to continue his unity will Deputy President William Ruto.

"Your Excellency wewe ni mzigo yetu na sisi ni mzigo yako tutabebana hadi mwisho... (You are our resonsibility and we are your responsibility, we will help each other till the end."

"We had a very big problem in 2008 here between Kikuyus and Kalenjins. We are very happy of the peace you brought here by working with Deputy President William Ruto. That is also why we are very wary of people who may want to separate you," the MP added.

Mandago added on to the humour by saying, Sudi only needed a few tea invites to State House to calm him down.

"Sudi's dose is very simple, invite him for tea at State House, three or four times a year and he will be good. Today he has gotten an overdose," the Governor said amid laughter.

Sudi has been less diplomatic in his criticism of President Kenyatta - sparking fears of a public clash in the Friday event.
