The assailants are said to have dug a shallow grave at her farm in Karega, Kigumo constituency where they buried her.
According to her neighbours, Grace Wangari Mwangi, who was in her late 70s, disappeared last week over the weekend.
The neighbours initiated a frantic search only to discover the remains of her body on Wednesday evening.

"We found a freshly dug area after combing through the farm," one of the neighbours told a local daily.
Police have launched investigations into the murder and have already arrested the farmhand to assist in the probe.
Muiru, the leader of Maximum Miracle ministries, surprised many in 2007 when he contested for the presidency on Kenya People's Party.
After losing in his quest, the once renowned Bishop has kept a low profile of his life and concentrated more on his ministries.
