Police in Migori have arrested a doctor for allegedly sedating and sexually assaulting a patient

Police in Migori have arrested a doctor identified as Tobias Wara Obutu for allegedly sedating and sexually assaulting a patient.

According to the police, Obutu is believed to have committed the offence on December 26 at Frontal Medical Clinic in Muhuru Bay town.

Nyatike OCPD John Musili recounted that "The medic diagnosed her and said she needed more blood. He took her to a private room and injected her. She became unconscious thereafter. He then sexually assaulted her and disappeared,"

“When the woman came to, she realised she was naked and alone in the room. She rushed to another hospital which confirmed her fears that she had been sexually assaulted. She reported to the police and a manhunt for the suspect was launched,” said Mr Musili.

He confirmed that the manhunt for the suspect who went into hiding shortly after committing the crime had come to an end and the suspect would be produced in court.

A relative to the victim who spoke to the media on condition of anonymity divulged that the incident left the victim who is recovering at a local hospital badly shaken.

"She is really tormented psychologically after the ordeal. She does not speak much," the relative revealed.

In the wake of the sexual assault allegations, residents took to the streets in protest with authorities closing the facility as the search for the suspect intensified.

The incident is similar to that in which rogue “Doctor” Mugo wa Wairimu is alleged to have sedated and raped multiple victims in his Nairobi clinics.

He is currently in police custody for allegedly operating a chain of clinics in which and sexually assaulting his patients.

He is also believed to have procured abortions to girls who were found locked up in a facility operated by the disgraced “doctor”.
