Police, NTSA announce nationwide traffic crackdown ahead of Easter holiday

Police and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) have announced a nationwide crackdown ahead of the Easter holiday.

Speaking on Wednesday, Police Spokesman Charles Owino conveyed that motorists who will be found on the wrong will have their licenses revoked.

He further outlined that security will be reinforced in a number of areas in the country especially those likely to see an influx of tourists during the Easter celebrations.

They mapped Mombasa, Naivasha, Nanyuki and the Maasai Mara game reserve as the top spots that will require heavy police presence.

10 teams dispatched for traffic

Mr Owino further disclosed that 10 traffic response teams have been distributed across the major highways as a way of reducing and preventing fatalities on the roads.

Among the roads that will be heavily manned are the Mombasa highway, Busia-Eldoret-Malaba highway, Kilifi-Diani, Nakuru-Nyahururu and Thika-Matuu highway.

He added that police are under instruction not to harass motorists over petty offenses such as dirty seat belts.

He encouraged PSV operators to stick to the provisions of their TLB licenses to avoid getting grounded.

He outlined that drunk drivers, drivers found outside the areas they are licensed to operate in and drivers of uninspected vehicles will all have their licenses confiscated.
