Detectives make new progress in hunt for Sharon Otieno’s murderers
Detectives make new breakthrough
The recording of statements led to social media reports that new suspects has been arrested - an allegation dismissed by County DCI boss Benedict Kigen.
"We are gathering information from witnesses to firm up the prosecution's case. We have not arrested new suspects," said Kigen.
Homicide detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have hitherto been holding Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s personal assistant Michael Oyamo and former Member of County Assembly (MCA) Lawrence Mula as the main suspects on Ms Otieno’s murder.
The two have been arraigned in court but are yet to take plea after detectives asked for more time to finalise their investigations.
The Nation quoted its sources indicating that four more suspects could soon be arrested after investigators conclude examining evidence connecting them to the brutal murder.
Among those who have recorded statements to the police include Governor Obado and Nation journalist Barrack Oduor.
The Migori Governor, however, insisted that he had nothing to do with the varsity student’s death.
Oduor, on his part, implicated the lead suspect Oyamo – telling detectives that it was Obado’s PA who lured him and Sharon to a group of kidnappers who were last seen with the 26-year old woman.
