Alfred Keter speaks after losing seat

Keter was speaking in Eldoret after he lost his seat.

Speaking spoke in Eldoret shortly after the High Court annulled his election following a successful petition by his rival Bernard Kibor Kitur, who accused IEBC of colluding with Alfred Keter to rig him out in the closely contested polls.

Mr Keter pointed to the recent scuffle for parliamentary leadership in various committees, linking them to his woes. He took a swipe at the ongoing borrowing of the Ksh 200 billion by the National Government, accusing the government of exorbitant borrowing.

“I know what is going on. I, Keter, am being fought a great war from above. I know it because I am fighting corruption in the government.

“I know there is a bigger plan, but God will guide us through. I am being fought because I am fighting corruption” Mr Keter said in his address to his supporters outside the court.

“I am not shocked at all at the outcome, I expected this because I know I am in a big fight and I am being fought from the top,” said the defiant Keter.

Keter was recently bundled out of the Labour Committee in parliament after a meeting at State House. Earlier, it was reported that President Kenyatta had instructed him to step down but he refused.

Regional balance

Mr Kenyatta wanted Keter and three other MPs out of the key committees, in what was said to be a scheme to achieve regional balance in the party house leadership.

Keter, who has once served in the Labour Committee, has accused Jubilee of misusing funds meant for the aged in the community. He has said that the money has been misused in the recent past and his intervention, lead to his ouster.

“The government also slashed the Agriculture budget by nearly Sh10 billion,” he said, avoiding to talk on whether he will accept the ruling, even after the court slapped him with a fine of meeting the cost of the petition.

“Having scrutinized both evidence, I have noted illegalities committed by the second respondent during the said exercise…. the first respondent committed various electoral illegalities. I hereby order fresh elections to be conducted by the second respondent,” ruled Judge Kimondo.

In the August 8 General Election, Keter was declared the winner by IEBC with 28,923 votes against 13,872 garnered by independent candidate Bernard Kibor Kitur who came second.
