Anger as Governor Delivers Lorry Full of Condoms After Hospital Requested for Medicine

A governor was rebuked for supplying condoms worth Ksh30 million instead of medicine.

A governor was accused by MCAs of supplying condoms worth Ksh30 Million instead of drugs asked by hospitals.

Embu Members of County Assembly claimed that Governor Martin Wambora provided condoms worth Ksh30 million to public hospitals although the hospitals were in dire need of medical drugs.

Flagged Condoms Lorry

Minority Leader Leonard Mwaniki stated that the governor flagged off a lorry alleged to contain medicine but on opening the consignments, hospitals found condoms.

“It is sad that residents are in need of drugs but the county has the audacity to ferry a canter full of condoms to the health facilities,” Mwaniki stated.

The MCA repined that the county had oversupplied hospitals with condoms, yet basic medical drugs such as painkillers could not be found in some public dispensaries.

His sentiments were echoed by Kagaari South MCA Robert Ireri who claimed he had seen several boxes full of red condom sachets at Ugweri Hospital, but the facility had a shortage of medicine.

The Minority Leader was, however, enraged by sentiments from Nominated MCA Agnes Wanjiru who stated that condoms were medical supplies which even the Minority Leader used quite often.

She, however, explained to the Speaker that she was opposed to the slander of the supply and use of condoms.

MCA Ngari Mbaka supported the provision of condoms in public hospitals, arguing that the rise of teenage pregnancies would have been averted if the teens had used contraceptives.

Another MCA Edna Muisyo, however, urged the Speaker to have the debate of condoms expunged from the order paper, saying it was would tarnish the image of the County Government of Embu.
