Ann Waiguru reveals unknown details about Uhuru-Ruto relationship

DP Ruto defended his absentia from State House last week when Uhuru named his cabinet.

The former Devolution CS moved to quell escalating speculations that all is not well with the two top brass of the Jubilee, a ‘fallout’ which emerged just after President Kenyatta named new cabinet secretaries in the absence of the DP last Friday.

The Vice chair of the Council of Governors termed as "sideshows, rumours and speculation” reports that Mr Ruto and Head of State fell out over sensitive cabinet slots, prompting his absentia from State House last week.

"I can state categorically that there is no issue between the two leaders and that their relationship is very intact,” Ms Waiguru said, and threw jabs at Opposition governors who have in the recent past flanked Nasa leader Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka in a push for a swearing-in.

"Those still in campaigns should heed the president's advice that it’s time to work and fulfill development pledges. All other sideshows have been bypassed by time," she said at a funeral on Wednesday.

Ruto’s statement

Ruto, after the president retained six cabinet secretaries and three new other nominees, in a statement, castigated a battery of Jubilee lawmakers, accusing them of fronting a ploy to talk of 2022 politics, instead of engaging in development in their areas.

DP Ruto was hitting at Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, who had initiated 2022 succession politics on social media, and moved to assure him of votes from Mt Kenya.

“Kenyans, more so jubilee should avoid useless political debates about positions including 2022 and focus single-mindedly on delivering our manifesto voted for by the people while allowing the President the space to perform his constitutional duty to assemble the team for us,” DP Ruto tweeted, nearly a day after President Kenyatta named the cabinet in his absentia.

Kenyatta and Ruto appeared in public together on Tuesday during the burial of three AIPCA bishops who perished in road carnage.

DP Ruto used the forum to dismiss claims that the two are in wrangles, adding that “Kenyans should let the president do his constitutional role of appointing cabinet secretaries.”
