Waiguru tough response after she was ranked second most corrupt leader in Ipsos poll

Waiguru to start legal battle with Ipsos

According to the survey, the former Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary was in second place with 31 percent of the population expressing a belief that she is corrupt.

Ahead of Ms. Waiguru was Deputy President William Ruto, who garnered 33 percent of the votes by Kenyans placing him at position one on the list.

Retired President Daniel Moi’s name also made its way on the list at position three with 17 percent of Kenyans voting for him.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, former President Mwai Kibaki, and Opposition leader Raila leader were also mentioned in the survey as corrupt leaders by 5 percent of those surveyed.

In the survey question, Ipsos asked Kenyans: “Of all the current and past but still alive political leaders you can think of, which two do you think are or were most corrupt.”

The polls come at a time when President Kenyatta has revamped his fight against corruption after vowing that the vice must come to an end.

After the tough declaration Kenyans have witnessed the arrest of several high-ranking officials including Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero. However, there have been zero convictions.

The study further indicated 73 percent of Kenyans do not believe that those implicated in corruption will be convicted while 51 percent say that Mr. Kenyatta fight against corruption is a sincere one.
