Youthful Senator loses seat

The Court has ordered a repeat of the polls.

A Court of Appeal in Mombasa on Thursday ordered the IEBC to conduct fresh polls in 60 days, following a successful petition by his competitor.

Court of Appeal has nullified his 2017 poll victory citing irregularities. Anwar is 28. The petition had been filed by his opponent Hassan Albeyit who came in second during the August 8th 2017 election.

The decision is a big win for the petitioner, Mr Albeity, who had ran for the seat on a Wiper Democratic Party ticket.

Earlier, Mr Loitiptip had defeated Jubilee's Abu Chiaba who was incumbent during the Jubilee Party primaries in April, 2017. He is affiliated to Jubilee Party.

On February 9, High Court Judge Asenath Ongeri had dismissed Mr Albeity's petition citing failure to comply with court timelines and ordered each party to bear their costs.
