Mudavadi is the new Opposition chief – ANC

Speaking to Pulselive.co.ke in an exclusive interview on Monday, the Secretary General explained that the decision by the ODM leader to sign an agreement with President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 9, induced torture to the tenants of National Super Alliance, casting doubts on the existence of the coalition.
The coalition, which was a creation of Mr Mudavadi, Muluka has said, suffered a blow given the developments that followed the January 30 swearing-in of ODM’s Raila Odinga.
Mr Odinga showed up at Uhuru Park in Nairobi flanked by a handful ODM members of parliament, and would later accuse Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka of cowardice. The three were conspicuously missing, and would later emerge claiming they had been detained by police.

“Raila must come out clean and publicly declare that he left Nasa. Because in its current state, we cannot say that Nasa exists. The purpose for which the coalition was formed was destroyed by one Raila Odinga.
In fact, I can assure you that Musalia Mudavadi is the Opposition leader. Because, if Raila, whom we fronted as our chief, opted to work with Jubilee in defiance of Nasa’s tenants and agreements, how would you even think of Nasa in the first place?” he posed in an interview.
He further averred that the intrigues surrounding the constitutional amendments to allow for the creation of the office of the Prime Minister, reserved for a person who becomes second in the presidential elections, are baseless.
Muluka agreed with Deputy President William Ruto who on Sunday told off politicians, saying they were misinforming Kenyans about the deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga and trying to mock voters. He affirmed that the move to have more of such positions would weaken the Opposition.

“We need to have a strong Opposition at the end of the day. Now tell me, if someone doesn’t get elected for president and find themselves in the government as the Prime Minister, who will look at what the government is doing? Is it the return of one party state, where no one cares about checking the government?” he posed.
Luhya Unity dilemma
While he maintained that Wetangula’s Ford Kenya and ANC were in talks to have a merger, Mr Muluka remained cagey on the major developments that have been reached in the discussions.
He however revealed that the discussions were at an advanced stage, despite the sabotage from Jubilee and ODM allied lawmakers from the region, maintaining that the ultimate decision is in the offing.
“The decision would be communicated to you. The process is still in the workshop and the decision is being worked on. The moment for us to communicate is not yet. So it’s important we wait.

“We have had meetings, before even the first public proclamations were made. Unfortunately I cannot expose everything before the entire process is done. I assure you, we have in fact sent out jitters and others are now funding detractors to bring the Luhya aspect in it,” Muluka said.
On Sunday, two Luhya MPs have distanced themselves from the community’s unity being spearheaded by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula.
George Aladwa (Makadara) and Godfrey Osotsi (nominated MP) yesterday said the two leaders are only politicking. They warned Musalia and Wetang’ula against taking the community for a ride in their new quest, which the two say will fail.
