New plan to remove Sonko from office Initiated
A new plan to remove Sonko from office has kicked off
The petitioner, Boniface Nyamu, an Advocate of the High Court, cited an alleged 'assault' by the Governor's bodyguards on a nominated MCA and Sonko's 'refusal' to nominate Deputy Governor as the grounds for the suit.
Barring Sonko
“When we were electing the Governor, we elected him alongside his deputy governor in consideration that they would complement each other in terms of politics and development but immediately the respondent was sworn in, he started frustrating his deputy until the Deputy governor resigned,” Nyamu stated.
He wants the court to bar the governor from transacting any county business until the case is heard and determined.
Nyamu argued that although Nairobi is a business and commercial hub, it has become unconducive for work.
The lawyer accused Governor Sonko of being negligent of his duties and roles of running the city.
He further accused Sonko of “side shows and publicity stunts” as part of the reasons he is not fit to be in office adding that the county boss blames Evans Kidero and Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho for his failures.
In May this year, a Nominated ODM MCA, claimed she was verbally attacked by the Nairobi County boss before one the bodyguards turned physical.
Assault of Disabled MCA
Mwami alleged she was assaulted when members of the Transport Committee were scheduled to have a meeting with the Governor.
"As I was leaving Sonko's office, a bodyguard famously known as Jamal confronted me on claims I abused the Governor and his people," the MCA told journalists.
"I know Jamal as we have met in various functions. He jumped on my neck, pulled me and threw me on the ground. I am a person with a disability. By the time he left, I noticed he had roughed me up to the point where my bra was torn," she added.
