Raila forced to run away after NASA MPs attempted to swear him by force

The MPs had already brought a retired judge to the meeting

During the meeting held at the Sun N Sand Hotel in Kikambala (Kilifi County), delegates from the Coastal Counties called on Odinga to take his oath of office as President of Kenya.

The first sign of trouble came after Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir gave the former Prime Minister a bible and challenged Odinga to accept the abrupt swearing in.

At this point, the NASA leader excused himself and went outside of the hall where the delegates were meeting.

While Odinga was outside, Kilifi Woman Representative Gertrude Mbeyu asked area senator Steward Madzayo, who is a retired judge, to preside over the swearing in ceremony.

"You are a judge, aren't you? Or retired judges cannot preside over a swearing-in ceremony?" Mbeyu remarked.

To cool the tension, ODM Executive Director intervened and called on the delegates to appreciate the need for a proper plan.

“We don’t want to swear him in like a joke I saw in a neighbouring country, where someone was sworn in in a corner,” Ong'wen pleaded.

Oduor’s plea, however, did not help the situation after Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa charged the delegates with a fresh demand to swear in the Opposition Leader.

The event’s Master of Ceremony, who is also the NASA Deputy CEO Noah Akala, was forced to call an abrupt lunch break at around 4pm.

Odinga later went on to address the gathering, and unlike his usually long speeches, he only took twelve minutes.
