ODM MP loses seat

The High Court ruled that he did not win his seat fairly.

ODM MP Chris Odhiambo Karan has lost his seat.

The Ugenya MP had his election nullified by the High Court which ruled that the race was not free and fair.

Justice Tripsisa Cherere ruled that the campaigns was perverted and the poll compromised.

The court also ordered Karan to pay the petitioner Dave Ochieng Sh7m in costs.

The verdict followed Mr Ochieng’s argument that he his campaign was hampered after he was accused of having a hand in killing of IEBC ICT manager Chris Msando.

In the elections held on August 8, Ochieng who ran on a Growth (MDG) party garnered 23,418 votes against his challenger, ODM’s Mr Chris Karan, who garnered 23,765 votes, which is a difference of 347 votes.
