Babu Owino's seat hangs in the balance after today's court ruling

Embakasi East MP Babu Owinos seat now hangs in the balance after the High Court on Monday ordered recount and scrutiny of all votes cast in the parliamentary race during the August 8 election.

The ruling was made in an election petition filed by Owino's opponent from the Jubilee Party, Francis Mureithi.

Mr Mureithi, who got 39,805 votes against Owino's 43,862, pleaded with the court to annul the August 8 polls, arguing that the intimidations that Babu adduced to his supporters violated their absolute rights to vote.

Babu Owino supporters, the petitioner argued, attacked Joseph Obiende of the Amani National Congress at Lower Savannah Soweto Social hall.
