How Minister's son died while working on Kenyan Presidential Campaign

The minister's son was linked to Cambridge Analytica accused of influencing the 2017 Kenyan elections.

In an interview with co-hosted by the global Byline Investigates in London and the Frontline Club, a private members club in Britain, Wylie revealed that Mureşan was found dead in a Kenyan hotel room.

The death resulted in the vacancy which Wylie filled at a British political consultancy firm linked to Cambridge Analytica, the controversial British data mining firm accused of influencing the 2017 Kenyan elections.

However, Wylie refused to state how Mureşan, the son of former Romania Agriculture Minister Ioan Avram Muresan died.

“I did not know this at the time when I joined but my predecessor, he was working in Kenya for president Uhuru Kenyatta, and he was just found dead in a hotel room. That is why they had a vacancy. I can’t say he was murdered. He died in his hotel room.” Wylie stated.

“The Romanian citizen was working with a British telecommunications company, being in Kenya for a while. He had not yet registered his presence on Kenyan territory with the Romanian diplomatic mission,” the Foreign ministry told Bucharest Herald in September 10, 2012.

Influenced elections

The latest revelations adds to the concerns on the role of the British firms and how it is alleged to have shaped Kenya's political scene.

NASA has asked both the US and UK Governments to open a full investigation against Cambridge Analytica after the explosive exposé  by Channel 4 News which disclosed how it helped President Kenyatta during the 2017 General Election.

The firm is accused of using damaging information about politicians to push certain agenda to the electorates. The main purpose is to play with the citizenry’s emotions by either creating fear or wooing undecided voters towards a candidate.

In response to the expose, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju denied that the party had sought any services from the controversial firm, terming the claims as far-fetched.
