He further guaranteed them a fair hearing before the National Executive Committee which he chairs.

The ODM party leader spoke after he held a private meeting with Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori who was among those recommended for expulsion.

"Hon Odinga assured the leaders that those mentioned in the disciplinary committee report of ODM will be given a fair hearing by the National Executive Committee," a statement from the former Prime Minister's office read in part.

Details also emerged that MP Dori pleaded his case before the party leader, seeking to be pardoned.

"We assure you that we are available for regular consultations with, and guidance by, the party.

"As you may have noticed, we have slowed down on 2022 campaigns as you had advised and we remain committed to actions that strengthen rather than weaken the party," he told the special AU envoy.

Dori, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, six Homa Bay MCAs and one Busia ward representative were recommended for expulsion by the ODM disciplinary committee. Their fate will be decided by the NEC.

Should the NEC adopt the recommendations of the discipline committee, the legislators will lose their leadership posts.

A number of ODM luminaries have come out to plead for the pardon of the accused who were found guilty of gross misconduct.

Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire noted: "I kindly beg the party to consider giving Ms Jumwa and Mr Dori another chance. I’m sure they are ready to comply."
