DP Ruto hit with fresh condition as his allies are told to apologize to the Kenyatta family
Development comes in the wake of reports of a major fallout in Jubilee
Addressing the public at a fundraiser in his constituency, Tigania East MP Gichunge Kabeabea made it clear that the Meru region will only vote for the DP if he chooses Peter Munya as his deputy.
He supported his demand maintaining that the community has never held a higher position in government despite many years of strong support to previous regimes.
Munya had earlier on indicated that he will go for the top seat.
Separately, DP Ruto’s allies came under heavy criticism for dragging the name of Kenyatta family through mud in the ongoing war against corruption.
Speaking in his constituency on Friday, Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut bashed his counterparts Cornelly Serem (Aldai) and Oscar Sudi (Kapseret) for failing to accord the family of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta the necessary respect.
A tough talking Chepkut warned the leaders to “desist from talking ill against the First Family”.
“It is in bad light to speak against the family of the Late Jomo Kenyatta who struggled for this nation”. Chepkut said.
He urged the legislators to learn to control their emotions and instead concentrate on development and should respect the President since he is a symbol of national unity.
The MP demanded that the MPs allied to DP Ruto should apologize to the first family, adding that it was bad for the country.
A section of DP Ruto’s allies led by Oscar Sudi and Kipchumba Murkomen had alleged that the war on corruption was being used to settle political scores and was unfairly targeting DP Ruto’s allies.
Sudi led a host of other legislators in demanding that a directive to conduct a lifestyle audit on state officers be extended to the Kenyatta family, right from Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
