The surprise truce between Kenyatta and Odinga could complicate things for Ruto and his allies are keenly watching the unfolding events.
While the move was lauded by many, legislators allied to Deputy President William Ruto have adopted a ‘wait and see approach’.
Close ally to the DP and Uasin Gishu Governor disclosed that they “are watching the unfolding events and will make decisions as we go along” following the meeting that caught everyone by surprise.
Mandago made it clear that despite the unfolding events in the political scene, they “still expect our colleagues in Jubilee to support Ruto in 2022”.
Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu noted that the deal between Kenyatta and Odinga had created a new order in Kenyan politics.
According to Wambugu, the deal places Odinga right at the center of the 2022 succession plan and anyone hoping to succeed Kenyatta “will have no choice but to deal with him (Odinga).
The DP will be banking on votes from Mount Kenya region but according to political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi, the new Uhuru-Raila deal complicates things.
“Bottom line is Raila will split the Kikuyu vote with Ruto, or he may even do a deal with him” Ngunyi stated.
DP Ruto is among those who have expressed interested in succeeding Kenyatta in 2022 and is believed to be readying his troupes for the race to State House.
