Deputy President William Ruto has revealed that he lost his younger brother to cancer.

Encouraging Kenyans to go for screening, the DP emphasized that the terminal disease can be successfully treated.

"We need to educate our people on the importance of visiting hospitals for cancer screening because, if detected in its early stages, it can be successfully treated," he urged.

DP Ruto's brother, Harrison Kiptoo succumbed to Kidney Cancer in July 2016 and the DP noted that Kiptoo had kept his condition a secret until it was too late.

Spokesperson David Mugonyi told reporters that the DP was only scheduled to visit Jonathan's home and Bomet East MP Beatrice Kones who lost her daughter.

Mzee Moi's family had also released an earlier statement cautioning well wishers that he would not be receiving guests at his home as he mourns his son.
