Alfred Mutua: I have friends in US, Japan and Hong Kong who want me to be Kenyan president

Dr Mutua said he will be facing DP Ruto at a cost of over Sh18 billion.

Speaking Monday morning on a local radio station, the former Government spokesperson said that he already has over Sh3 billion in savings, after a concerned listener phoned in to seek clarification on how he will be raising the money, given his salary is known.

“I have the Sh3 billion and you see, I have been abroad for a long time. I schooled abroad. I have friends in the United Arabs Emirates, US, Japan and Hong Kong who are ready to fund my campaigns.  The source of money should not worry you, join me to change Kenya.

“I have so many friends who have contributed to that course. They have told me that Kenya needs visionary and young leader like me. So, I have friends who are committed to see me take that job. They are already contributing,” the governor said in an interview.

Earlier on a local TV station, the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader shocked Kenyans when he said that he was in a bid to raise Sh18 billion to compete with “big fish like Deputy President William Ruto” but cautioned of the dangers of having too much money.

"It opens the way and I have my own cash. I can compete on the same level as others. It is worth it because I'm not doing it just for me but for the people of Kenya.

"Anything you spend beyond that will not help. You need money to reach a certain stage," he said, adding the funds will be used to get Kenya from a dark age to a new era.

"That's the kind of money needed. It is worth it if you want to move this country to a new age. You have to do it. A time comes when you say that you are doing this for the people.

"People have seen that I am a man of my word. My presidential bid is not a way to get a government position in future," he said.
