Emabakasi East MP Babu Owino on Thursday got a major reprieve after withdrawal of a case where he is accused of assaulting a parking attendant in Nairobi.
Owino was charged alongside his bodyguard Fanuel Owino for allegedly assaulting David Gichagu Wagana, a parking attendant at Fortis Towers compound in Westlands area in Nairobi on January 11, 2018.
Wagana has now withdrawn the case.
In late January, the vocal MP was dramatically arrested and spent a weekend in jail for the alleged assault.
Owino was later released on a Sunday afternoon after Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja made a personal surety of Sh104,000 to produce him in court.
The former SONU leader later claim that the case was sponsored by the government and was meant to intimidate him over his political position.
Incidentally, the withdrawal comes just a few days after Owino pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to "save his political career" in the spirit of the peace deal reached between the head of state and NASA leader Raila Odinga.
