Mr. Muthama, who is anticipating Wiper’s Wavinya Ndeti to win the election petition, warned Kalonzo against meddling into the politics of the region by imposing on them a Deputy Governor.
Speaking at his Tala home, Mr. Muthama stated that the people should be allowed to elect who Wavinya’s running mate will be.
"Our party leader should remain a party leader and allow us the people of Machakos space and freedom to choose who will be Wavinya’s running mate in case a by-election is ordered," he said.
During the 2017 General Election, Mr. Muthama sharply opposed Wavinya’s former running mate Peter Mathuki.
According to the former Senator, Mr. Kalonzo had imposed the former East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP on them.
"My wish is to have a scenario where a regional balance of power is guaranteed. He (Kalonzo) should not impose to us a hand-picked individual to pair with Wavinya," she said.
After the polls, Ms. Ndeti moved to court to challenge the victory of Mr. Mutua arguing that the election was not free and fair.
In the High Court, her case was thrown out and Mutua’s victory upheld but she appealed the decision and she won at the Court of Appeal.
Governor Mutua has since moved to the Supreme Court to challenge the decision made by the Court of Appeal judges.
The Apex court’s ruling will be final in this election petition case.
