NASA takes action after attack on Citizen TV journalist

Citizen's Gachuri and NTV cameraperson Jane Gatwiri were roughed up in the incident.

Senior Citizen TV Reporter Francis Gachuri was physically assaulted by NASA supporters as he was covering the NASA presser where Raila Odinga was expected to announce the next move for his coalition.

Sources who spoke to indicated that Journalists had staged a walkout from the meeting after the incident.

A KTN reporter was also attacked during the incident while NTV cameraperson Jane Gatwiri was slapped for filming the incident.

It is alleged that the Journalists were attacked on allegations that they are pro-Jubilee.

Raila's personal assistant Dennis Onyango condemned the action saying that the youth had acted on their own.

"We wish to make it clear that the youth acted on their own and we condemn their actions in strongest terms possible. We ask media houses that may have captured the said youth on video to provide them to the Coalition for investigation and action.

The National Super Alliance is deeply disturbed by an incident in which some youths attending its meeting at Wiper Headquarters earlier today assaulted some reporters from local media houses," Onyango said.

Director of Communication for ODM Party Phillip Etale also apologized following the incident.

“Dear Colleagues, I must say here what I saw was unfortunate, barbaric and archaic. I have reported the matter to Hon. Raila Odinga and he is not amused at all... A statement on the same will be released and the youths involved will be reprimanded. On behalf of NASA I apologise for the attack on my brother Gachuri and sister Jane of NTV. I am very disturbed.” stated Philip Etale.
